Good-Bye Barney Boots

Our pal Barney Boots passed away in Wisconsin today. He injured his back and his paralysis was too extensive so his parents helped him to the Rainbow Bridge so he could run free. This is always a fear with corgis with our long, low backs. My Mum worries a lot about me and my back but what will be, will be. But we miss our pal Barney, as do all our corgi friends on Facebook.

Get Your Hankie Out

This video has made Mum cry numerous times over the years because 1) She loved James Stewart (still does), 2) She loves dogs (like me) and 3) She cries whenever a dog dies (ask her about Old Yeller)

And we leave you with that. We miss you too Beau. And Jimmy.

This isn't going to help corgi publicity at all!

Andrew Hough
12:00PM BST 19 Aug 2012
They may be among the Queen's favourite subjects but her corgis are in the doghouse after getting into a fight with one of Princess Beatrice's pets. Max, an 11–year–old Norfolk terrier, is said to have been badly injured after a "nasty" encounter at Balmoral castle last week. The Princess's pet nearly lost an ear and suffered several bloody bite injuries that had to be treated by a vet, in the latest in a series of scraps between royal dogs. It came days after the death from natural causes of another dog belonging to the Duke of York's elder daughter. The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh were said to be "very upset" about the incident, thought to have occurred last Sunday. The Queen was elsewhere in her Scottish castle when the fight erupted between six corgis and three Norfolk terriers.

"The Queen's dog boy was taking the corgis for a walk and they were joined by the Norfolk terriers, which came with Prince Andrew," one insider told a Sunday newspaper. "They were being taken along the long corridor leading to the Tower Door before being let into the grounds for a walk, and they all became overexcited. They began fighting among themselves and unfortunately the dog boy lost control. "The next thing we knew there were horrific yelps and screams and it seems the corgis picked on Max. "He was very badly injured and had to be taken to the local vet. There was blood everywhere.

Max disappeared in 2008 from the family home in Windsor Great Park, and a search party, including the Queen, the Duchess of York and Princess Eugenie, was formed. Three weeks later he was found bedraggled and hungry. The royal source added: "It's ironic that the Queen was very worried about Max and helped in the search for him, but now her own dogs have attacked him."
The Queen owns three Pembroke Welsh corgis called Monty, Willow and Holly, which are all descended from a dog she was given for her 18th birthday, which was called Susan.
Some corgis were mated with dachshunds, most notably Pipkin, which belonged to the late Princess Margaret, to create "Dorgis". Her three Dorgis are called Cider, Candy and Vulcan.
This sort of news just depresses me.

I Wants a Loris

Mum is super busy right now because our Grandmother is moving to Oregon and will be almost right next door to us! How fun is that?! In the meantime, Cooper and I care camped out in front of the 'puter watching videos and we have decided since Mum is ignoring us that we should get a pet of our own and we wants a Loris. They are very zen-like and eat rice very gently. We promise to walk it, clean it and love it. Please let Mum know we should get to have one.

Allergies Are Not Our Friend

See the big, black mark by my mouth? I have been rug surfing with my face because my allergies are in high gear. I have been going under the bed and chewing on my feet and shaking my head because my ears itch. All in all, not a happy time for me.

Mum took me to the vet and now I am taking 1 1/2 tablets of Benadryl twice a day (per the vet) and I don't itch any more. I do get a little spacey which Cooper thinks is funny.

Mum says my allergies will get better as summer ends but until then I have to take my Benadryl and antibiotics (to heal my face). I hope my rug burn turns into a scar. I will tell the ladies I am a pirate and it is an injury from a sword fight. Why is Mum laughing hysterically?

Pool is open, everyone come in!

Mum finally got my pool out of shed and filled it with water utilizing the evil water hose which must be attacked at all costs! I do not know what the evil water hose does when it is not on but it must hide in some dark, dusty, evil place. For that and many more reasons, I always go slightly ballistic when Mum turns on the hose. Cooper, he doesn't care for water so he ignores the evil water hose. He has no idea how many times I have saved his life. Ungrateful wretch!

Checking out the evil water hose

I took a brief break to catch my breath.

Keeping an eye on the hose, it seems to move on its own.

Always keep a firm grip on the hose lest it get away.

Never take your eyes off of the hose, it cannot be trusted.

Nice action shot eh? Mum does have her uses.

Take that you evil hose! Nice teeth yes?

I feel barking adds to the experience. Mum unfortunately does not agree. Go figure.

Today the evil water hose, tomorrow the lawn mower!

Mum is Home!

Look! Mum has come home and everything is right with the world again! See the smile on my face? It isn't there just because she bought a 25 pound bag of dog food in the door with her! BOL! Pig pile on the bed tonight!

The Ocean!

Mum sent me a video of the ocean in North Carolina. There is a windsurfer out in those waves somewhere. There has been terrific wind and lots of people with kits and boards. As my readers may know, I am an ocean dog - give me the waves, the sand and the people with picnic kit! Oh yes!

I am checking to see how much it costs to fly to North Carolina as I would like to windsurf. Cooper said he doesn't want to go along unless he can sit on the beach with Mum. He doesn't like water quite as much as I do.

We're Bachelors and It's Cool!

Mum in in North Carolina so Dad is making the house into a bachelor pad and we are loving it! Dad sends Mom notes on Facebook to let her know we are not taking our pills, having fattening snacks and staying up all night. He told her we were having chicken fried steak and french fries last night and he sent pictures showing us fishing and checking out the tundra and turf. Mum doesn't believe a word of what Daddy sends but she knows we are having fun being 'just the guys'.

The good news is that Mum is with her family and there are no dogs there and all she can do is miss us! BOL!

This is me fishing during our walk at the Park. I don't actually fish, I was really drinking water because it was a bit warm.

This is evidence that Coop and I really do get along. Here we are conferring on some pee-mail. Cooper relies on my expert discerning sense of smell.

Post 4th News

Mum(right) and our Aunt Emely(left)
Copyright Gazette Times

Once again our Mum has embarrassed us to no end by dressing up for her 5k Walk Race and then standing by the parade route looking like a red, white and blue candle. She made the front page of the paper (with Aunt Emely above) but thankfully we live in such a small town that perhaps no one will notice.

The drugs Mum got for me to make the fireworks less stressful made me a stumbling fool so after a test dose, those drugs were put away and not used again. I got kind of loopy and very sad looking. I made it through the holiday with minimal stress and barking.

How was your 4th? Let me know!

Happy 4th to All!

As we celebrate our independence from England we want to make sure our friends across the Pond know that we consider them family. I mean these are the people who gave the United States corgis for pete's sake, what's not to love them!

But more importantly we want to celebrate our men and women serving the United States in our armed forces and their support service personnel, both past and present. They are the ones for whom our freedom comes from on a daily basis.

So hats off to all the people of the United States for the freedom we enjoy, to those who make it possible and for those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

Video Tips from our Aunt Nancy

Our beloved Aunt Nancy Medina who has Flower Mound Studios is making a "how to" video on painting (she is a wonderful artist). She has learned so much making her first video and we think she has come up with some novel tips, like...

• When filming a video in your studio, if you happen to own a dog who has never regurgitated in its life, it will choose a moment when you are filming to regurgitate loudly and with enthusiasm.

• When filming a video in your studio, be forewarned that at a crucial moment in the painting, your easel will most assuredly collapse, causing you to blurt out words on camera you wouldn't say in Sunday school.

• If your husband is doing the filming, even if he has never before seen a painting video, be assured he knows a lot more about what should go into your painting video than you do.

• If you happen to have four pugs in the studio with you during filming, be sure you do not begin filming one hour before the pugs' mealtime, since the elder pug will take it upon himself to find ways to creatively remind you that a mealtime is eminent.

• After you have fired the husband/cameraman, ordered him out of your studio, and exclaimed that it is time to return the new video camera to Best Buy the next day, eat chocolate. Chocolate calms the soul.

• The next morning, after husband/cameraman asks to return to his post and swears to not utter a single word during the entire filming, lock well fed pugs in kitchen and proceed with video.

Mum says there is nothing we do worth videotaping at this time, mostly because it would cause undue concern and revulsion to our viewers...whatever!

We're Blogging for Kibble

<><>
Blog and feed our friends in shelters!

Our bestest friend at The Daily Corgi has informed us of the following!

"For every blog post about the campaign between now and June 30th, Pedigree will donate a bag of food to a shelter via The Rescue Bank. Want to know more? Check out my post, get yours written today and join the fun of our Blog Hop!

Yep, it's THAT easy, and some homeless dogs will thank you with a waggly tail and a hopeful woof. Need more incentive than that? (As if!) Write the post, include the URL in a comment below (before July 3) and I'll enter you in a drawing for the Pedigree "dogs rule" swag I got at BlogPaws 2012: a snappy set of covetable items, including a tote bag, ball cap and collar, all in midnight black, emblazoned with "dogs rule" in canary yellow. You know you want 'em!"

We have no idea what a swag bag is but we are game for it! Laurie of The Daily Corgi is promoting this and we have to tell you that Laurie is a fine lady and devoted dog owner and whatever she recommends - well, you know it is reputable and wonderful cause!

So get out your pencils and start blogging! We've included links to everything you will need - so no excuses pals!

Horrors! (This is just to get your attention)

Where has the time gone? Indeed we ask that ourselves, quite often! It was a busy May for us with our Grandmother falling and fracturing her shoulder – Mum had to fly out to Chicago  to check out on Grandmummy and stayed for a whole week. We were, of course, lonely, but Dad took good care of us.

While we have been away the most shocking things have happened and we list them in no particular order:

 1.      I (Dozer) have had to go to the vet because I have rubbed my face raw due to allergies. I have another visit to the vet today because it has begun again.
2.      Cooper had a haircut.

3.      We are having a small party on July 1st for our doggie friends. Please pray that the rain stops.

4.      Grandmummy has decided to move out to Oregon so Mum is scrambling to get GM’s apartment outfitted with furniture and essentials at the assisted living hotel.

5.      It is raining incessantly here. Even if this is typical of Oregon, it is most unwelcome.

6.      Both of us have tried running away when Mummy or Dad let us out in the front yard. I made it across the street to the neighbor’s house where I pooped under their tree and pee’d on their bushes. Cooper headed straight down the street towards town and ignored all of Mum’s screaming. Eventually we were corralled home and given a stern lecture. Yeah…whatever.

Mum says we will update our blog regularly now and we ask forgiveness from our subscribers for having you let you down so terribly. I would like to remind our dear readers that we are entirely dependent on Mum to keep our blog updated and current. She is totally worthless at times and her priorities need realignment.

I am off to the vet in a few minutes and shall update you on their findings.

Celebrating with the Queen

You probably know her Majesty Queen Elizabeth is celebrating this year - she's been on her throne for donkey's years so everyone is throwing her parties all over the island of UK, across the pond from us. This should be a reminder that Her Majesty has done more for the corgi nation than anyone - she's had corgis since forever. Which makes perfect sense since we are the cutest dogs in the whole universe.

Here she is, the Queen not the corgi, in a nice portrait.

Her Majesty was amused at these patriotic corgis who met her as she toured today as part of her Jubilee celebration.

So let's all tip our teacups for Her Majesty on her Jubilee year!

Tonight We Walked!

We went to Marys River Park and took a 1.4 mile hike (there was much huffing and puffing  by a certain corgi)

The Coast Range Mountains beckoned a raining mist but it waited until we were almost done with our walk

This is right behind the Police Department in our small town. Isn't it just lovely? We think so.

The flowers are spectacular right now. Well, that is what Mum says.

At the present time we are attempting to work off the extra ten pounds I have gained over the winter. I get carrots and veggies as treats but I have let Mum know how distressful this is to me. I ate one of her cardboard Christmas ornaments to let her know how hungry I am.

If you have any mercy, any at all, send me fud.

We gots a new friend

We have new friends from a place called "Down Under" which Mum says is located on the other side of the world and a couple of latitudes lower than us. We think it looks very beautiful in Down Under. Rory and Stella live Down Under with their parents and seem to have a very nice life. You can visit them at their blog Stella and Rory (or is Rory and Stella?)

My neck is better or Mum thinks so and of course it is all due to peoples and dogs likes you. Thank you for your prayers and good thoughts. I took two walks this week and had a good time. Now Mum says I have to lose 6 pounds. This concerns me. Deeply.

Dozer Having Neck Issues

Our little man is on pain meds and muscle relaxants. We are not sure what is going on but his neck started spasming on Saturday and the vet thought perhaps he jumped off the couch or fell or something like that. We thought he was all better but last night he was not a happy boy so another vet visit may be in order! Your good thoughts and prayers are always appreciated for the beloved corgi (and his cocker spaniel brother too!)
